Hi! I’m Kat, a doctor, wife, dog-mum and self-taught hobbyist photographer based in Cardiff, Wales, in the UK.
I am also living with stage 4/incurable breast cancer.
Ever since my diagnosis I have vowed to live beautifully - with fire and grace - for the remainder of my time here.
I would love for you to do the same.
Some days are easier than others, but while the world can seem chaotic around and within us, photography is my way to stop and see the world around me with all of its' little treasures.
I love the extraordinary things in the ordinary. Colours, patterns, textures and details. The beauty in the everyday - and the sheer simplicity of it.
... and this is what I would love to share with you.
I am lucky enough to call Cardiff & South Wales home, where I find a lot of inspiration for my photography right on my doorstep.
"My love of photography is melded with the ability to capture what I want to remember in the moment I want to never forget"
- Devin Dygert (photographer)
Cancer touches all of our lives in one way or another.
I have been fortunate enough to have received outstanding care through the very organisation I have worked for my entire career - the NHS. The individuals and teams that have cared for me (and continue to care for me) through both my primary and secondary diagnoses of breast cancer, have been incredible.
The majority of this care has taken place at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff (Wales, UK).
No-one ever wants to find themselves in a cancer hospital, but 1 in 3 of us will.
You will be pleased to know however, that should you or a loved one find yourself at Velindre, you will be pleasantly surprised.
For the unacquainted, Velindre is a surprisingly pleasant place. The atmosphere is nothing like that of a typical hospital. It is an incredibly peaceful, positive and friendly place - the staff make sure of it. From the moment you walk through the door, you will feel like a friend and not a patient. Or in my case, an old friend, after a 7+ year career as a patient there!
The hospital provides everything from chemotherapy to radiotherapy, conventional to trial treatments, and psychological to alternative therapies. I have had them all.
Behind the scenes, they are working hard to break barriers and research new treatments to try to bring us all longer and quality years of life. Perhaps, even one day to outlive cancer, and beat it altogether.
20% of all profits from this site will be donated to Velindre.
Every fundraising effort makes a huge difference to people like me - so thank you for listening and visiting!
